Practical, not awareness theatre

Every World Mental Health Day workshop ends with a one-page action plan participants can use the day after the session. We don’t deliver content that lands in a vacuum.

Workshops led by chartered psychologists, GPs, executive coaches and clinical specialists

credentials that match the subject matter

Designed by accredited specialists

Every session is co-designed and delivered by accredited mental health professionals and coaches with corporate experience. The harder material is held safely if it surfaces in the room.

Why book World Mental Health Day with Stretching the City

Time-to-Talk-Day-workshop-practical-tools

World Mental Health Day works hardest when it’s an investment, not a tick-box. Specifically, organisations that get genuine value from 10 October treat it as the autumn moment they refresh mental health capability across managers and whole teams — not the day they post a poster about mental health mattering.

What sets our WMHD delivery apart:

  • Designed and delivered by accredited specialists. As a result, the harder material is held safely if it surfaces — and it often does on World Mental Health Day
  • Practical, evidence-based, not awareness theatre. Specifically, every workshop ends with a one-page action plan participants can use the day after the session
  • Mental fitness over mental health crisis. Furthermore, we lean into proactive capability rather than reactive crisis response — equipping teams with daily habits and frameworks

What is World Mental Health Day?

World Mental Health Day was established by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992 and now reaches more than 150 countries each year. Generally, it’s marked through awareness campaigns, fundraising, and increasingly, through workplace activity that goes beyond the symbolic. Specifically, for UK and global employers, it’s the moment when mental health gets the budget, attention, and senior buy-in that’s harder to access at other times of the year.

World Mental Health Day Workplace Ideas_2

Notably, World Mental Health Day complements the UK’s Mental Health Awareness Week (May) — Many organisations mark both as bookend moments in the calendar. If you’re building a year-round mental health strategy, both moments deserve a place.

When is World Mental Health Day 2026?

World Mental Health Day 2026 falls on 10 October. Most organisations mark it the week before or after to maximise team attendance.

If you’re reading this in August or later, you should book this week. Specifically, awareness day slots fill 8-12 weeks ahead, and the 8-9 October slots are the first to go each year.

Our four flagship World Mental Health Day workshops

Four sessions do most of the heavy lifting for WMHD 2026. Specifically, our broader Mental Health at Work workshop hub covers the full catalogue (over 15 workshops).

mental fitness hour

Mental fitness for whole teams: Mental Fitness Workshop

A proactive, skills-based session designed for whole teams. Specifically, it covers the daily habits and frameworks that build mental fitness over time — recognising your own state, regulating reactions under pressure, building cognitive flexibility, and the small practices that compound into real wellbeing. Importantly, this isn’t a clinical workshop or a crisis-response session.

Generally, it suits teams that aren’t in crisis but want to invest proactively in mental wellbeing as a workplace capability.

Suitable for all employees. 60 minutes.

mental_health_for_managers

Mental Health Training for Managers

Our most-booked manager workshop. Notably, this is also the single highest-leverage investment most organisations can make on World Mental Health Day.

A 90-minute session built around the ALGEE framework. Specifically, it equips your people leaders to spot mental health concerns early, hold the wellbeing conversation, and know when to escalate.

Every direct report a manager has is protected by a manager who knows what they’re doing — therefore, the multiplier effect on a single workshop is enormous. Manager-only. 90 min.

Planning a World Mental Health Day that actually works

A workshop on the day plus a Slack post afterwards isn’t a World Mental Health Day investment — it’s awareness theatre. However, the organisations that get genuine value from the day design it as a coherent moment with before-and-after.

Before the day (4-12 weeks ahead).

Confirm your workshop slot and theme. Brief senior leaders on what they’re sponsoring. Decide who’s running each part of the day. Importantly, communicate the plan to the team early enough that they can attend.

The day itself — sequence matters.

Generally, we recommend opening with leadership communication that names something specific (not a generic “mental health matters” memo). Then deliver the main workshop mid-morning when energy is highest. Subsequently, follow with smaller activities through the afternoon — peer-led check-ins, optional mindfulness, signposting moments. Finally, close with a leader-fronted message that names what changes after the day, not just what happened during it.

workplace_wellbeing_programme_london
The week after:

Critically, this is where most organisations drop the ball. Specifically, the workshop landed; participants left motivated; and then nothing happens. Therefore, plan a single follow-up touchpoint — a manager check-in, a pulse survey, a “what we’re doing differently” comms — within 5-10 working days of the event. This is what turns awareness into change.

We can help you structure the whole arc on a discovery call. Importantly, the workshop is the spine; the rest is scaffolding.

Our Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 page covers the May moment in depth. Additionally, for a structured year-round approach, see our signature wellbeing programmes which thread these moments into a coherent calendar.

Other awareness moments for mental health

Beyond 10 October — the autumn programme angle

World Mental Health Day lands hardest as part of an annual rhythm — not a standalone moment. Specifically, the organisations that get the biggest impact treat 10 October as one of four anchor moments:

  • Time to Talk Day — first Thursday of February
  • Stress Awareness Month — April
  • Mental Health Awareness Week — May (UK), with the week’s theme often shaping the workshop focus
  • World Suicide Prevention Day — 10 September (immediately before WMHD)
  • Movember & International Men’s Day — November

  • Loved the Mental Health training today! So many great things covered, that I can put in to action right away.

World Mental Health Day at Work: Frequently asked questions

When is World Mental Health Day 2026?

World Mental Health Day 2026 falls on Friday 10 October. Specifically, most UK employers mark it on 10 October itself or during the week of 6-10 October to maximise team attendance. Furthermore, some organisations extend mental health activity across October as a wider mental health month.

What’s the difference between World Mental Health Day and Mental Health Awareness Week?

World Mental Health Day is a single global day on 10 October, run by the World Federation for Mental Health. Mental Health Awareness Week is a UK-specific week in May, run by the Mental Health Foundation. Specifically, MHAW typically has an annual theme set by the Foundation; WMHD doesn’t always have a specific theme. As a result, many organisations mark both as bookend moments in a year-round mental health strategy. For the May moment, see our Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 planning guide.

How does WMHD pair with World Suicide Prevention Day and other autumn moments?

Specifically, World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September) and WMHD (10 October) are exactly 30 days apart. As a result, organisations now often run a combined September-October mental health capability programme — manager training in September, whole-team work in October. Furthermore, this approach delivers two visible moments with shared infrastructure and a combined cost saving versus booking each standalone.

Planning your WMHD workshop and delivery

What workshop should we book for WMHD?

For maximum impact, the most-booked configuration is a whole-team Mental Fitness Hour in the morning plus a manager-only Mental Health Training for Managers session in the afternoon. As a result, the team gets shared understanding and the managers get the deeper capability. Furthermore, for topic-specific options (burnout, resilience, sensitive topics, identity workshops), browse the wider Mental Health at Work hub.

Can we deliver WMHD virtually for global teams?

Yes. Virtual delivery is available globally — we’ve delivered WMHD sessions to teams in North America, Europe, the Middle East and APAC. Specifically, for very dispersed teams we typically run the same session twice in different time zones rather than asking everyone to attend one slot. Furthermore, recording is included by default.

How far in advance do we need to book?

Standard lead time is 6-8 weeks for in-person delivery. Specifically, the week of 6-10 October fills first each year, so booking between mid-July and mid-August secures your preferred date. Furthermore, virtual delivery often remains possible later in the window than in-person UK delivery. For multi-session programmes or multi-region delivery, allow 8-12 weeks.

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on workshop count, format (in-person UK or virtual), audience size and whether you’re booking a single session or a wider programme. Specifically, multi-element bookings (whole-team morning + manager afternoon) are priced more favourably than single sessions. Furthermore, organisations booking the combined September-October programme (WSPD + WMHD) get an additional discount. Book a discovery call and we’ll send a clear quote within 48 hours.
