Men’s Mental Health Matters
Despite suicide being the biggest cause of death for men under 35 and 76% of death by suicides by men, men are still less likely access psychological therapies than women.* What’s more, men are feeling the pressure at work. In a survey by Mind of 15,000 employees, one in three men (32%) blamed their work for causing mental health problems, compared to one in five women (19%).
And more recently, 38% of men have noticed a negative effect on their mental health since the start of the pandemic, and 20% feel vulnerable talking about their mental health (YouGov).
In this 60 minute session, lead by a male mental health campaigner and author (who will share his own mental health story throughout the workshop), we aim to tackle the taboo of men suffering in silence and make it our mission to get more men talking about mental health. This workshop will discuss:
- The dichotomy of appearing ‘successful’, ‘strong’ and ‘sorted’, whilst suffering from insecurities, anxieties and mental health illnesses.
- The ‘male’ experience of common mental health illnesses.
- Tools and tips to promote and improve good mental health amongst men.
- Ways to create an open and supportive community amongst your male peers.
How it works:
- Capacity: Up to 50 people or 100 virtually. Feel free to keep this male-only, or open the session up to women, so they can learn how to support their male colleagues, friends and family.
- Requirements: The facilitator will need a screen for powerpoint slides. If delivering virtually, we’ll send you a Zoom link.
- Length: 60 minutes.
