The Evolving Landscape of Workplace Wellbeing
As we head into 2026, the wellbeing agenda has shifted from “nice to have” to non-negotiable business strategy. Organisations are moving beyond one-off initiatives towards sustained, scalable wellbeing that reaches every employee — whether they’re in London, Los Angeles or Singapore.
The latest CIPD research confirms that wellbeing remains firmly on the boardroom agenda, with 74% of employers saying senior leaders prioritise wellbeing and more than half reporting measurable benefits such as improved health, engagement and performance.
The challenge for 2026 is not whether to invest in wellbeing — it’s how to deliver it sustainably, inclusively and effectively across hybrid and global workforces.
From AI to recovery, recorded learning and global accessibility, here are the 10 workplace wellbeing trends shaping 2026 — and how to make them work in your organisation.
Watch our Workplace Wellbeing Trends 2026 webinar
To help organisations prepare for what’s next, we hosted a Workplace Wellbeing 2026 webinar where we unpacked the trends you’ll read about below, with real examples, evidence and practical takeaways. Whether you’re planning wellbeing strategy, awareness activity or structured support this year, this session will give you deeper context and practical insight.
🔮 1. AI Meets Wellbeing
AI has moved from hype to help, transforming how organisations deliver wellbeing at scale. From AI-powered habit trackers to personalised learning recommendations, smart technology is helping employees manage stress, focus and productivity more intelligently.
At Stretching the City, our AI & Wellbeing Workshop explores how AI can support, not sabotage, wellbeing, by exploring digital boundaries, emotional intelligence, and the ethics of human-tech collaboration.
Why it matters in 2026:
- Psychological safety and digital wellbeing policies will become critical for trust and retention.
- AI tools will increasingly be integrated into HR platforms and wellbeing apps.
- Employers must balance automation with empathy — ensuring tech supports, rather than replaces, human connection.
As technology transforms how we work, the human side of wellbeing is coming sharply into focus, particularly the need for rest, regulation and recovery…
🧠 2. Rest, Recovery & the Nervous System Revolution
Your 2026 workplace wellbeing strategy isn’t about doing more, it’s about recovering better.
The conversation has shifted from resilience (coping under pressure) to nervous system regulation, rest and recovery as foundations for high performance.
From breathwork and micro-movement sessions to sleep hygiene and energy management, organisations are realising that sustainable productivity depends on rest as a performance tool.

Why it matters in 2026:
- Recovery-based wellbeing improves performance more sustainably than “resilience-only” models.
- Expect to see more nervous-system-aware leadership and team wellbeing training.
While rest helps restore energy, sustaining those habits over time depends on how learning is delivered — and that’s where recorded and on-demand wellbeing training comes in…
💻 3. On-Demand & Recorded Wellbeing Training: Wellbeing That Lasts
The days of “attend it once and forget it” are over. In 2026, employers are stretching their wellbeing budgets further by investing in recorded and on-demand content that can be accessed anytime, anywhere.
At Stretching the City, our Extended Access Recording allow clients to re-use live workshop content for 12 months (or even unlimited access) giving global and hybrid teams ongoing learning without repeat fees.
For even more scalability, our Evergreen Wellbeing Workshop offer pre-recorded sessions across key wellbeing topics, complete with captions and toolkits for company-wide rollout.
Why it matters in 2026:
- Recorded wellbeing training saves 30–50% vs. repeat live sessions.
- Reinforces learning and engagement long after the event.
- Perfect for asynchronous and global teams.
⚖️ 4. The Rise of “Human Productivity”
After years of hustle culture, 2026 marks a turning point: performance and wellbeing are no longer opposites.
Organisations are embracing human productivity — the idea that sustainable success requires focus, energy and balance, not burnout.
Our Productivity Workshop: Working Smarter, not Harder has become one of our fastest-growing sessions for exactly this reason. It helps employees manage cognitive load, attention, and energy, the real drivers of performance in hybrid, distraction-filled environments.
Why it matters in 2026:
- Productivity training is evolving beyond time management, it’s now about brain health and attention.
- The science of focus (flow, ultradian rhythms, rest cycles) is entering mainstream workplace learning.
As organisations empower individuals to work smarter, not harder, the next challenge is scale — ensuring every employee can access the same quality wellbeing support, wherever they are in the world.
🌍 5. Global, Inclusive & Always-Accessible Wellbeing
As global hybrid working becomes standard, wellbeing strategies must work across cultures, time zones and languages.
Stretching the City now delivers live workshops twice daily for global teams, plus on-demand wellbeing content with multilingual subtitles, making wellbeing truly borderless.
Our Global Virtual Wellbeing Workshops ensure every employee, from Sydney to San Francisco, can access the same engaging, human-led experience.
Maples Group Case Study: Since 2024, we’ve partnered with Maples Group to run a global wellbeing programme spanning APAC, Cayman, London and Luxembourg. 🧠 The result? Consistently high engagement, positive feedback, and a scalable model of global workplace wellbeing done right. 👉 Read the full case study →
Why it matters in 2026:
- Hybrid and global workforces need flexible, asynchronous wellbeing options.
- Multilingual and culturally inclusive content is now a baseline expectation.
📉 6. Wellbeing is no longer a ‘nice to have’, it’s a business-critical issue
The CPID report reveals a stark but unsurprising reality: Presenteeism, stress, and burnout remain worryingly high.
- 87% of respondents observed presenteeism (employees working while unwell) in the past 12 months.
- 47% reported a rise in mental health-related absences.
- And perhaps most critically, only 50% of senior leaders are perceived to be bought into the wellbeing agenda.

🧠 7. Mental health support: Some progress, but gaps remain
Encouragingly, the report also shows that mental health support has become more common, with 69% of organisations providing mental health training for line managers. However, fewer than half feel confident in their managers’ ability to have supportive wellbeing conversations.
This confirms what we hear daily from our clients: managers are often the missing link. They care about their teams but lack the confidence, skills or language to have meaningful conversations.
That’s why our Time to Talk: Cultivating Conversations around Mental Health and Mental Health Training for Managers workshops remain two of our most-booked sessions, providing leaders with practical, psychologically safe training to support their teams effectively.
🏥 8. Long-term health conditions and menopause need more attention
The CIPD report highlights growing awareness around menopause support and long-term health conditions, but also shows how patchy and inconsistent this provision still is:
- Only 30% of organisations have a menopause policy in place.
- Just 24% offer tailored support for employees managing long-term health conditions or chronic illnesses.
This echoes our own findings: while many employers want to offer support, they don’t know where to start — or how to make it inclusive, relevant and impactful.
That’s why we’ve created targeted, expert-led sessions on:
💼 9. Flexible working and digital overload still clash
Flexible working is here to stay, but hybrid environments also bring challenges, including digital fatigue, blurred boundaries and a rise in ‘digital presenteeism'(employees always feeling the need to be ‘switched on.’)
While 78% of organisations now offer some form of flexible working, few are training employees on how to manage energy, focus and screen time sustainably.
That’s why these workshops below have become essential components of any modern wellbeing strategy.
📢 10. Amplifying Your Strategy, Beyond Manager Training
While manager training remains key, these findings highlight opportunities to expand your strategy:
1. Prevent Presenteeism vs. Respond to It
Only 50% of senior leaders are truly bought into the well-being agenda, yet 87% report witnessing presenteeism in the past year . To tackle this, introduce Psychological Safety at Work workshops that reduce stigma and encourage boundary-setting, alongside Resilient Teams programming that fosters collective responsibility and reduces hidden pressures.
2. Support Physical Resilience
Musculoskeletal issues and burnout often go hand-in-hand. Blend Movement & Massage sessions into your offering to encourage mindful movement and prevent physical strain. Pair this with Nutrition and Sleep Workshops to help boost resilience in all areas of life.
3. Support Working Parents Before They Burn Out
With stress and caring responsibilities counting for 26% of short-term absences , proactive support for parents is essential. Embed Wellbeing for Working Parents workshops into your package, helping teams manage dual pressures through realistic expectations, compassionate planning, and self-care.
Together, these trends signal a major shift: wellbeing is no longer a moment in the diary — it’s an ongoing, integrated part of how we work and lead.
💬 Final Thought: Wellbeing That Actually Works at Work
Together, these trends point to a more intelligent, inclusive and sustainable approach to wellbeing. Technology is helping us scale support; science is teaching us to recover better; and flexible learning ensures wellbeing lasts long after a live session ends.
The organisations thriving in 2026 won’t necessarily spend more on wellbeing — they’ll spend smarter. By combining AI insight with human empathy, live energy with on-demand access, and rest with productivity, they’ll create cultures where people perform at their best — sustainably.
At Stretching the City, we call that wellbeing that actually works at work.
